The moral of this fable, "Outside show is a poor substitute for inner worth," seems to have been written specifically as a response to the demolition of the Tower in the previous card. It's the mantra that the Star recites out loud in hopes of summoning the courage to set out alone, unprotected, without artifice.
This disembodied, in-between-worlds quality is what makes the Star seem so ethereal and desirable an icon. It's also what fascinates us about real stars -- both the outer-space kind and the Hollywood kind. We gaze at them, memorize them, even worship them; they do not, can not, gaze back.
